Say hello to this week's featured shop: gottaspoilemgems!

Hello loyal readers!  Our team has decided to spotlight a shop each week so that you all can get a feel for all of the great pet items as well as other crafty goodies that we come up with. Our first shop to be under the spotlight is gottaspoilemgems (Wen Preston). She is one of our more active team members and really set this idea in motion, so congrats to her for being awesome. She started out making pet accessories about 10 years ago for her own little ones so they could have more variety in their cages. When friends started wanting similar items, things took off from there, and she has been selling them for about 7 years. She has raised and is familiar with many small animal breeds, which include but aren't limited to rats, mice, and guinea pigs, as well as Syrian and Dwarf hamsters.  Her patterns were based off of the cages she was using at the time, and then she modified the patterns to fit a variety of sizes. She also did the same with her carriers. You will find that she loves to use soft cottons, flannels and fleeces in fun prints and colors for her accessories. She has been known to donate her pet related items to charities that she likes.

You will also find that she has a wonderful array of jewelry that she sells in her shop. Some of her favorite stones to use are Mookite, Unakite, Amazonite, and Indian Agate. According to her it started out as a fondness for pretty rocks. This segued into finding natural stone beads that incorporated not only her love for animals ( note some of the lovely animal shaped beads) but beautiful vintage inspired color combinations. You will be able to tell that this jewelry is durable and well crafted while also being delicate pieces. Let's not forget she has some adorable prints in her shop as well. There really are treasures to find in this shop!

New Small Animal Shelter Opens in Oceanside

What luck to be perusing the Google news today and get this story! This is really exciting for me personally because I used to live in San Diego, I love it there so much, and it just makes me so happy that an organization would fulfill this need. While this new shelter does mainly house cats that are in need of homes, it's wonderful that they would make the space for them to house any small creature from rabbits to turtles. Anytime these organizations can expand to take in animals that could find good homes it is a good thing. You can read more of the story by clicking on the title.
