Our weekly featured shop: Cobb Cabin Crafts!

This weeks lovely spotlight shop belongs to CobbCabinCrafts. She is based out of Toledo, Ohio and started her Etsy shop in July of 2010 ( Happy Anniversary!). Usually I let the shops tell me their story and I write about it, but I decided to excerpt directly from her conversation with me, as I feel she tells the story best:

"I've been creative for as long as I can remember. I started sewing when I was just six and quickly learned that it was more fun to take patterns and tweek them into my own ideas than to follow the directions. Sometimes the results were good and sometimes not! Over the years I've sewn for myself, my children and others, but sewing for small animals was never something I thought I'd do.

The Cobb Cabin Crafts story starts about two years ago when my daughter wanted to do a 4-H program on guinea pigs. After lots of research, we adopted our first guinea pigs. My dad made them an awesome cage and I set about figuring out how to make fleece bedding and safe toys for them. Soon I was making cuddle cups, tunnels and bags for them to play in. A friend who has guinea pigs saw my cuddle cups and encouraged me to give selling them a try. Cobb Cabin Crafts was created.

Fabric shopping is always an adventure! I have four children who love to come along to pick out fun prints. I'm always looking for just the right combination between the outer fabric and the fleece. My children can be heard asking "Does this have the right pop, Mom?" often in the fabric store."

You will see that her shop really stands out with her high quality photos; you can see the denseness of the fabric used paired with the fleece. The colors are vibrant and the patterns are so cute.  It helps to have several fresh eyes to look out for the cutest stuff in the store! She puts a fun spin on the standard hammock and cozy cave. You will also notice in her shop several pairs of lovely hand knitted socks, a hobby she acquired as it was much quieter than sewing. The patterns are unique and you can tell they are well crafted. She is also currently working on prototypes for cage liners, and plans to release them as soon as they've been tested "in the field". Our weekly featured shop: platypusmonger!

Everyone say hello to our shop of the week: platypusmonger! Like a lot of our other great shops she started making fleece bedding and toys for her own guinea pigs and for friends as a quality alternative to some pet store toys.   Safety is the word with this seller!  You can be sure that everything is tested and designed with safety for your pet in mind. She's lucky enough to work at a fabric store, so she always keep an eye out for vibrant, cute colors, for both boys and girls and neutral colors as well. She used high quality fleece to make sure that her beds and toys are sure to last a very long time. Her long term goals involving the shop are to eventually donate 25% of the profits to various animal rescues for small animals; to make sure that not just piggies, but rabbits, hamsters, hedgehogs and more benefit from the donations. She is also working on a wooden line of toys specifically for gerbils and other breeds for which these toys are a safer alternative to fabric. She made some for her gerbil Jason, who is really enjoying them. Also be on the lookout for some larger versions of her tunnels and such for larger pets, like cats. You can count on prompt shipping and can  consult with her on a custom design for your pet.  Please do check her out! She is currently having a Christmas in July sale for 15% off everything! Use code CIJ11. Also, you can see what she is up to on her blog, Facebook, and other social media.
